Mamelodi Controversial Businessman Cat Matlala’s Wife Tsakane and Co-Accused Granted R20,000 Bail in Luxury Lease Fraud Case
Tsakane Matlala, the wife of controversial businessman and alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, has been granted R20,000 bail by the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Her co-accused, Given Mokofane and Claudette Masethe, were also released on the same bail amount.
The trio, who were arrested by police following a targeted investigation, face heavy charges of fraud and corruption.
They allegedly used falsified bank statements and fraudulent documents to secure a luxury residential lease agreement in the upscale suburb of Waterkloof.
The luxury property reportedly commanded a staggering monthly rental fee of R95,000.
While the State did not oppose bail for Tsakane Matlala, Mokofane, and Masethe—ordering them to surrender travel documents and adhere to strict reporting conditions—the story is entirely different for the alleged kingpin himself.
The prosecution is vehemently opposing bail for Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. He remains incarcerated at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre and is scheduled for a separate bail hearing in mid-October.
This fraud case runs parallel to a separate, high-profile trial in the Gauteng High Court, where both Cat and Tsakane Matlala face 25 operational charges—including 11 counts of attempted murder relating to an alleged hit plot against actress Tebogo Thobejane.
The luxury lease fraud case has been formally postponed to 29 October for further police investigation.
