Shadrack Sibiya Appears In Court On Five Charges Including R*pe
Suspended Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday facing five charges, including r*pe, trafficking in persons and s**xual grooming of a child.
The 59-year-old officer was arrested on Monday night by members of the Madlanga Commission’s Recommendations Task Team. The State alleges that the offences occurred between May and August 2026 and involve an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl.
Prosecutors allege that Sibiya rped the 18-year-old at a Sandton hotel in May and used electronic communication to sxually groom the minor between July and August. He also faces a trafficking-related charge.
The matter was postponed to 29 September for a formal bail application, which the National Prosecuting Authority intends to oppose. Sibiya will remain in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.
The State told the court it had intelligence suggesting a possible escape plan and alleged that Sibiya and an alleged “cabal” had attempted to influence witnesses and have the charges withdrawn.
Sibiya has not yet entered a plea. The allegations remain before the court and must be proven by the State.
