Ivory Coast legend tells Junior Dion to dump Arrows
Junior Dion has done the hard part. Now his countryman wants him to cash in.
Former Ivory Coast goalkeeper and 2023 AFCON winner Badra Ali Sangare says the 27-year-old Golden Arrows striker should leave the Golden Arrows immediately — and preferably South Africa altogether.
Dion finished last season as the league’s top scorer with 14 goals. This term he already has four in nine games. Against Mamelodi Sundowns, he is a certified nightmare: five goals in his last five meetings with the Tshwane giants.
That pedigree, Sangare argues, is no longer enough to keep him at Arrows.
“I think it is the right time for him to go to a big team because he has now adapted to South African football,” Sangare told FARPost. “He knows the league. He’s ready.”
Dion arrived from Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in August 2021, first with Marumo Gallants, then AmaZulu, now in his second season at Arrows.
Before this campaign he already tried to force an exit, reporting late for pre-season amid links with UAE side Al Wasl. Sangare’s advice is blunt: take the bigger cheque.
“When I have a chance to talk to him, I’ll advise him to go outside South Africa. This thing is about money,” he added.
“If you get better money somewhere, you must go. In football you never know. Maybe you get injured tomorrow. When better offers come, go. All things in football are for money — to serve your family.”
The Sundowns specialist has made his name. Sangare says the next move should make his fortune, and secure the bag for his family.
