Pitso stacks the dugout as Bafana lock in for Guinea at Orlando
Pitso Mosimane is not walking into AFCON qualifying with a skeleton crew.
The Bafana Bafana coach has completed his technical team ahead of Saturday’s 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations opener against Guinea at Orlando Stadium — and he has gone back to people he trusts.
Marcus Mashilo is in as goalkeeper coach. Tshepo Mahao joins as assistant analyst. Goolam Valodia takes the opposition analyst brief for this three-match camp.
“The technical team is complete now,” Mosimane said. “We have got Marcus Mashilo to help us as the goalkeeper coach.
“Marcus is very experienced and he worked with me at Mamelodi Sundowns. He also worked with coach Manqoba Mngqithi and coach Rhulani Mokwena.”
That Sundowns DNA is no accident. Mosimane wants familiar voices in the room as South Africa starts qualification duty against Guinea, then flies to Cairo for Eritrea on Wednesday, 30 September.
They will then play a friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October.
The squad is still arriving in pieces. Bafana assembled in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
Samukele Kabini landed Monday morning after an overnight hop from Norway. Puso Dithejane walked in just before dinner after flying from Chicago.
Relebohile Mofokeng, Ime Okon, Olwethu Makhanya, Shandre Campbell, Thapelo Maseko and Sphephelo Sithole were due later on Monday.
One concern: Lebohang Maboe sat out Monday’s session with a niggle. Medical staff will monitor him over the coming days.
First stop is Orlando Amstel Arena. Then Cairo. Mosimane now has the staff he wanted for both.
