Suspect Arrested in Montclair with Unlicensed Firearms
A 29-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, 22 September 2026, following his arrest for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The apprehension was carried out on Monday by members of the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit during an intelligence-driven operation in Montclair.
Police officials launched an investigation after receiving a tip-off regarding an individual harboring illegal weaponry.
Intelligence gathered during the preliminary probe further suggested that the individual could be linked to a string of recent shootings that have plagued the Wentworth area.
Acting swiftly on the gathered information, operational teams proceeded to the suspect’s flat located in Montclair.
Upon realizing the presence of law enforcement, the suspect attempted to evade arrest by fleeing the premises. However, police officers successfully pursued and apprehended him.
A search of the suspect yielded a significant cache of illegal contraband, including two pistols, four magazines and 57 rounds of live ammunition
The suspect was taken into custody and formally charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The South African Police Service confirmed that the recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.
This analysis will determine whether the weapons have been used in the commission of other violent crimes or the ongoing shootings in Wentworth.
