Media Statement TSHWANE DISTRICT – On Friday, 06 December 2024, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane successfully conducted a high-density operation within the Sunnyside, Silverton, Rietgat and Soshanguve policing precincts. Initiated and coordinated by Major-General Samuel Thine, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, this disruptive operation aimed to combat criminal activities, enforce by-laws and enhance public safety during the festive season. This initiative resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects for various offenses. The operation focused on visible policing through increased patrols, stop-and-search initiatives, and the enforcement of liquor license regulations. A total of 56 undocumented individuals were detained and are awaiting the finalization of legal proceedings before deportation, with six individuals arrested and fined for employing illegal immigrants. 913 individuals and 349 vehicles were searched with three vehicles being tested to verify whether they were stolen, along with 9 premises, 22 spaza shops, including 20 liquor establishments. This resulted in one illegal liquor outlet closed, and 542 110 ml of alcohol confiscated for destruction following legal proceedings with 15 suspects being arrested for drinking in public. Two suspects were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs, with several zip lock bags of narcotics were found in their possession and confiscated. 23 AARTO traffic violation notices were issued, amounting to fines totalling R6 000 with eight persons being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Major-General Thine emphasized that this disruptive crime prevention operations will continue to ensure safer communities throughout the festive season. Ends
