Media Statement LIBODE – An intelligence driven operation by Mthatha District Task Team led to the arrest of a 61-year-old male suspect of Luthubeni locality, Nyandeni A/A in Libode for unlawful possession of two unlicenced 9mm pistols and ammunition on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 at about 00:05. On police arrival and searching at the identified 61-year-old’s homestead, a 7.65 pistol (erased serial number) with ammunition and a 9mm Taurus Brown pistol (intact serial number) without ammunition were recovered. Both firearms will be taken for ballistic tests to check whether they have not been involved in any criminal activity. The suspect will appear before Libode Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 on charges of unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition. OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended all members involved in the operation, stating that their efforts prevented potential violent crimes. “Removal of illegal firearms from our communities ensures the safety of all residents. I applaud the team for their dedication and commitment to crime prevention”, said Major General Modishana. Ends
