Media Statement POLOKWANE – A total number 532 suspects were arrested and 61 unlicensed liquor premises closed across Limpopo Province during the high density, multi-disciplinary Operation Shanela (Kukula) conducted from Monday 06 January until Sunday 12 January 2025. The operations were conducted together with other law enforcement agencies consisting of: South African Defence Force (SANDF), Traffic Police, SARS, Department of Minerals and Energy, Home Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry amongst others. Furthermore, the operations comprised of high visibility patrols, roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle check points, tracing of wanted suspects, compliance of inspections at second hand dealers, scrapyards and informal business such as spaza shops.
During the operation, a total number of 532 arrests were effected as follows: ▶️ In addition, 59 suspects were also nabbed for assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH), 61 for assault common, 04 for rape, 05 for attempted murder, 01 for murder, 05 for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 06 for dealing in drugs and 05 for Contravention of Second Hand Goods Act.
The Police in Limpopo also managed to confiscate the following items: Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before their local Magistrate’s court.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe is pleased with the positive successes that were achieved by the men and women in blue together with other role players who continue to make significant strides towards the creation of safer communities.
