Fifty couples exchanged vows at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, west of Johannesburg, in a mass wedding ceremony rooted in more than six decades of church tradition.
Led by His Grace Comforter F.L.G. Modise, the ceremony brought together families, friends and congregants who filled the church to witness the couples formalise their unions under both church doctrine and South African marriage law.
Following the wedding, the newlyweds will take part in a three week intensive marriage counselling programme facilitated by psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers. Church leaders say the programme is designed to ensure couples are fully prepared for the realities and responsibilities of married life.
The IPHC has conducted mass weddings since 1962 and continues to host them three times a year during Easter, September and December, preserving a longstanding spiritual and cultural tradition.
