Media Statement GQEBERHA – A convicted house robber, linked to 11 cases, was handed a 30 years’ imprisonment sentence on 27 March 2025. Lazola Sobhuza, aged 27, was first linked with a house robbery case during January 2022. Further investigation also linked him to 10 other cases across the Nelson Mandela Bay area. The total of 11 cases included an attempted murder case, an illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and nine house robberies. All the cases were consolidated under SAPS Kwazakele Detective branch and after close collaboration with the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the suspect was arrested on 11 January 2023 by the SAPS Kwazakele Task Team. Bail was successfully opposed by the State and the suspect remained in custody for the remainder of his court appearances until his sentencing was handed down on 27 March 2025. Lazola Sobhuza was handed a sentence of imprisonment for 30 years’. This conviction demonstrates exemplary investigative work, interdepartmental cooperation, and commitment to justice.
