GAUTENG – On Saturday, 11 January 2025, a multi-stakeholder law enforcement team from the Tshwane District were assembled and continued their crime fighting efforts by conducting a festive season high density Operation in Bronkhorstspruit and Cullinan Policing areas. The operation, Coordinated and led by Major-General Samuel Thine, District Commissioner of Tshwane, was executed in collaboration with various agencies and resulted in the arrest of 297 suspects for a range of offenses and the recovery of 3 firearms. The aim of the operation was tracing of wanted suspects, conducting visible patrols with additional police deployment, and enforcing compliance with liquor licensing regulations Tshwane detectives arrested 258 suspects for serious offenses, which included 85 for gender-based violence, 30 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 2 for murder, 2 for attempted murder, 4 for house robbery, and 3 for rape. Additionally, 9 undocumented persons were detained and are awaiting legal proceedings for deportation with another individual arrested for employing illegal immigrants. As part of the operation, Law enforcement officers searched 726 individuals 419 vehicles with 10 vehicles and 6 firearms were tested to verify whether they had been stolen. 38 identified premises and hotspots were searched which resulted in 10 persons being arrested and fined for drinking and being drunk in public. 15 liquor establishments were inspected, with 2 closed for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. A total of 82 760 millilitres of liquor with 1 person arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes. In 2 separate incidents, information was received and followed up on a person who was in possession of 2 unlicensed firearms. The house was identified and officers approached the targeted premises. The house was searched and 2 firearms with 67 rounds of ammunition were found. The suspect was arrested and detained. In another incident, information was received regarding a possible stolen cellphone. With preliminary investigation being done, the information was followed up, a person who sold the cellphone was traced, and with being searched, a firearm and 1 live round was found in his possession. He could not give a reasonable explanation for being in possession of the firearm and was duly arrested and charged. The firearms will be send for forensic tests to determine whether they were used in other criminal activities. Major-General Thine expressed his appreciation to all members involved in the operation.
