Police in the Eastern Cape have arrested 21 suspects linked to a major cable theft at Transnet’s electrical depot in Swartkops, Gqeberha.
The group was caught just before midnight on Monday, hiding inside a locomotive at the depot. Officers recovered backpacks and large plastic bags stuffed with stolen transformers, electrical switches, and copper cables — items valued at about R350,000.
The suspects are expected to face charges relating to the damage and theft of essential infrastructure.
