Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Twelve suspects, aged between 18 and 37, were remanded in custody following their arrest in Witbank during Operation Vala Umgodi. The suspects were charged with contravention of the Immigration Act. The suspects appeared before he Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 08 April 2025, whereby the case was postponed to 15 April 2025. The suspects were identified as follows: Ofonso Fenado (26), Amando Mucombwe (31), Isalas Simone (37), Moises Antonio Sithole (22), Amos Mutisi (19), Mateus Muthi (20), Manual Tivana (18), Jose Joa (33), Visco Meque (29), Jossias Sibanda (22), Joaquin Simango (18), and Samissore Ponte (24). A report indicates that proactive members conducted a stop and searches on Sunday, 06 April 2025. The 12 men were travelling in a minibus when they were stopped and searched along the Middleburg Toll Plaza. The Police Investigators are working collaboratively with officials from the department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the arrested suspects. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has noted with great appreciation, the continuous work done by the team assigned to conduct duties on Operation Vala Umgodi.
